"Where the Healing Begins" by Steve Hanks Signed Limited Anniversary Edition Giclee on Canvas "Where the Healing Begins" was the first painting I did that dealt with healing. I saw a story on television about a seven-year-old boy who was dying of cancer. He had two wishes for the last year of his life. He wanted to live on the beach in California, and he wanted to visit other children in hospitals and give out gifts to children who were going to get well and go home! A Malibu resident gave him and his Mother their home for the year, and the Make a Wish Foundation helped him with his second wish. It was a powerful story that had tears pouring out of my eyes. Six months later I was in California and a friend of mine introduced me to a woman he suggested as a model for painting. When I met her I realized it was the mother of the boy. I knew that her life had been changed forever, I asked her, "How do you try to heal from this?" She would sit out in the sun in the morning and look across the ocean because that was where her son wanted to be. So we started there. I added brand new plants to the scene, still in their plastic containers, with the idea that you have to just start replanting, starting from the beginning and growing from there.--Steve Hanks |

Do you believe in faeries? I (David) began to collect these framed and matted prints of females in fantasy roles since attending a local Sci/Fi Fantasy convention called Orycon back in the early 90's. They host an art show each year, which is my favorite part of the convention. When Tia and I got met on-line in 1998, she saw this web site and saw how I was drawn to lots of faeries and things of Irish heritage. She could clearly see I was Pagan, even if I didn't even know it yet. Most Pagans I knew were heavy into the Goth scene, witch is cool enough in it's own right, but mixing fantasy and ones spirituality seems a bit peculiar, and that did not sit well with me. I do realize now that the fae do exist, and feel at home with my Pagan spirituality. Not that a person who likes faeries has to be Pagan, but there does seem to be a common thread here. It is much like those people who find themselves collecting things that look like elephants or frogs. Perhaps they are feeling a connection with their spirit guides or 'familiar' as it were. As opposed to the idea that 30 different artistic recreations of roosters are soo dang cute. Heck, I thought my attraction to these faeries was just the fact that they were just hot looking women? (LOL) It's a turn on for me to see strong and assertive women, like we often see in science fiction stories, be it comic books to movies or novels. I would like to think I do well to encourage Tia to be assertive and decisive, even when it may not be in my favor. To read more about real Paganism or how we met on-line and have a profound Soulmate connection; go to http://ladytia.com/ . Also we attended a large Faerieworld Festival here in the North-West, where a couple thousand faerie fans and artists came together to camp out at Hornings Hide-away. We took a lot of photos and display them at: http://mind-temple.com/fw/FW1.html These fantasy art prints are from artists from all over the world. Click on these small images below to get a look at the whole picture, and save them off to your PC if you like. The names of the artist will link to their web site, if they have one. |
